How theory's link to our trailer

Barthes Enigma code- narrative theory:
- mystery
- establishes problem (killer), will the audience decode the narrative codes to figure out who the killer is?


Laura Mulvey- representation:
- In trailer the girl looks young and attractive (feminine)
- The shot of the girl shown in her room makes her look young, which implies her young age and virgin state..links to Carol Clovers final girl theory (see below)

The uses and gradifications model:
- audience will watch the trailer for pleasure
- audience are free to watch the trailer and reject watching the full film or turn off the trailer half way through
- the trailer contains gore and mystery, which the audience could use to gratify their needs for escapism ect.



Jacques Derrida- horror genre theorist:
-'the mark of genre' is not itself a member of genre or type, but the same character that signifies genre defies classification in the same way'

Carol clovers-final girl theory:
- The Final Girl is usually the last woman standing. A woman who is resourceful, intelligent and feisty. She has witnessed her peers (male and female) being killed and she will be in the final confrontation with the killer. But rarely sexual and rarely sexually active. The Final Girl also brings into view the virgin/whore dichotomy. The sexually active women die and die, on camera, in the most violently gratuitous fashion possible, this occurs in films such as Black Christmas, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, House of Wax...
-"the Final Girl is a congenial double for the adolescent. She is feminine enough to act out in a gratifying way unapproved for adult males, the terrors and masochistic pleasures of the underlying fantasy, but not so feminine as to disturb the structures of male competence and sexuality."
